When do beginners course lessons take place? They take place on consecutive Saturday mornings between 09:30 hrs and 12:30 hrs. The actual dates will be published on our web site.
-
How long is the Beginners Course? The Beginners Course lasts for three full Saturday mornings, normally starting at 09:30 hrs and finishing about 12:30 hrs so in total there is about 8 to 9 hours of instruction/shooting with a mid morning break for refreshments.
-
Where do the lessons take place? They always take place at our indoor shooting hall at the Clive Richards Sports Ground, Bromyard.
-
What clothing should I wear?Your top should be well fitting with no loose or baggy sleves. The shooting hall can be a bit cold initially in the winter, so at those times we'd recommend wearing a sweat shirt over your normal top until things warm up. Footwear should be comfortable flat shoes or trainers as there is a fair amount of walking involved. For the ladies, please do not wear dangling ear-rings. If you wear spectacles with a cord/chain around your neck then either remove the cord/chain for the lessons or take off the spectacles and place them in a pocket. If you wear a shirt/blouse with top pockets then please ensure there is nothing in the pockets that can get caught by the bow string.
-
Is there an age limit? There is no upper age limit but we do have a lower age limit of eight.
-
Are there any restrictions to taking part in archery?Because archery is a physical sport we unfortunately have to have some restrictions on taking part and these are:
1. If archery could be detrimental to your physical well being.
2. If you are physically incapable of drawing up a bow.
3. If you are incapable of understanding and acting upon safety instructions. -
Will I have to buy any archery equipment to do the course? No, it will all be provided for you by Bromyard Bowmen. In fact, at this stage of your archery career, we strongly recommend that you DO NOT buy any archery equipment.
-
What sort of bow will I be shooting during the course? Our beginners bows are all of the 'Recurve' type which is the same type shot in the Olympics. By starting with this type of bow you will learn the basics of archery and it will put you in good stead should you want to try the longbow, american flat bow or the compound bow at a later date.
-
Is archery a strenuous activity?Archery is a physical sport. Our training bows are relatively light weight but you will be using muscles that you normally don't use. Also there is a considerable amount of walking involved in collecting your arrows once you have shot them.
