Course Outline

The following briefly outlines the features you will be taught on the beginners' course.

Day 1
  • Introduction to the recurve bow and protective equipment.
  • Safety aspects including whistles and verbal signals.
  • Warming up.
  • Barebow shooting demonstration followed by barebow shooting session (with individual coaching).
  • Shooting demonstration with sights followed by shooting session with sights (with individual coaching).
  • De-stringing a bow.

Day 2
  • Stringing a bow.
  • Shooting session.
  • Retrieving and scoring arrows.
  • Demonstration of types of bows and accessories.
  • Discussion of types of archery.
  • Shooting session.

Day 3
  • Rules of etiquette.
  • Set up of GNAS (Grand National Archery Society)/Archery GB.
  • Explanation of running of tournaments.
  • Beginners' Tournament.
  • Presentation of tournament medals and course certificates.
